Hunting

The elghund was bred to hunt moose (which it still does today in Scandinavia). In the United States, there are very few locations and times where moose hunting is legal, however, elghunds have been used to hunt smaller game. The hunting instinct is strong in most elghunds (as any owner who has had the occasionally unlucky rabbit, squirrel, groundhog, or even bird wander near their elghund knows).
