Tracking tests a dog's natural ability to follow a scent. In tracking competitions, the dog receives no cues from the handler and follows the track completely by scent. Various levels of competition require tracking on different surfaces. While many people wouldn't think of an elghund as a tracking dog, many elghunds have a strong tracking talent and desire.
